Smoke Alarm Laws in Queensland: What Every Gold Coast Homeowner Needs to Know

Queensland has some of Australia's strictest smoke alarm laws — and if you own or rent a property on the Gold Coast, they apply to you.

All Queensland homes must now be fitted with interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms complying with AS 3786:2014. Rental properties were required to comply from 1 January 2022. Properties being sold must comply at point of sale. All remaining homes must comply by 1 January 2027.

Non-compliance can affect your insurance and, for landlords, carry fines.

At Adamson Electrical, we supply and install compliant smoke alarms across the Gold Coast for homeowners, landlords, and property managers. We provide full documentation so your records are always in order.

$160 per alarm — supply, install, and 1-year warranty included.
